We were searching for a place for lunch in Frankfurt, and that's when we wandered into the wondrous world of the Kleinmarkthalle. And of course, we just had to explore the extensive items being sold before finding a yummy wurst stand.
There are a couple stands selling a variety of snacks, and best of all, you can give them a try before buying. Definitely try the almonds roasted in a combination of spices, and if you try the chocolate and powdered sugar covered coffee beans, your taste buds will persuade you to purchase a couple bags...
As you walk in, there are a series of flower stands selling all sorts of flower arrangements along with gorgeous flowers. And in case you are feeling a bit hands-on, they sell what seemed like hundreds of different plant seeds.
If you are there to purchase meat to take away, there are so many vendors selling pork, beef, and obviously, a huge variety of sausages!
The vegetables and breads here are all so fresh! I wish the US grocery stores sold vegetables that looked THIS appetizing! But I don't think the quiches looked too ready to eat...
In any case, we ended up choosing what was probably the most popular food stand: Schreiber. Two elderly ladies run this stand, and you can order a variety of sausages. And in case you don't like the skin, they will peel it for you! Plus, it's REALLY cheap!
- You can bargain for what you get at some of these stalls. We bought those chocolate covered coffee beans at the price of three for four bags!
- Upstairs, there are more shops, and you are welcome to purchase some meaty snacks for a small wine tasting.
- Be ready to wait in line for Schreiber!
- It's just two blocks away from St. Bartholomew's Cathedral so combine visiting the cathedral with some market shopping!
