Little Bad Wolf is a tavern-like establishment with well thought out comfort foods that will fill you right up. Disclaimer: do not come here if you are on a diet.

After a 40 minute wait on a Friday night, my friends and I were very hungry after a couple drinks while waiting (not to mention what time it was) so we ordered as if we were starving lions ready to pounce on anything that comes our way. So we ordered a variety of items from the menu, starting with the steak and BBQ pork bao. The flavors were interesting, but these were not the best I've had, especially because the steak was a bit well-done.

But the charcuterie plate is spectacular! We devoured the cheeses and meats, and I adored the semi-sweet fig spread that paired very well with the cheese selection. This is perfect for sharing, too!

I highly recommend everyone to order the elotes here - they are some of the best I've every had! The corn was very rich, and the avocados were very crispy. I couldn't get enough!

Fried chicken and mashed potatoes with bacon gravy. How in the world could we resist this? I'm so glad we ordered it and sad that we had to share it! This is the kind of fried chicken I would like a whole chicken's worth.

Pan roasted Brussel sprouts - bacon, pine nuts, crispy shallots

These Brussel sprouts were not impressive at all... Don't try to be healthy (they aren't healthy, btw) because they aren't worth your "healthy" calories.

Thankfully, we stuck mostly to the more substantial items, like the jumbo fried shrimp! We should have ordered the whole pound because these shrimp were so fresh and fried to perfection! They were much better than the ones we had a couple months ago at the Main Avenue Fish Market in DC.

Left: Half pound jumbo fried shrimp Right: Wolf burger - three patties with bacon, American cheese, shallot straws, house made pickles, mayo and fried egg

And finally, the giant three-patty burger looks very intense, but it will go down very easily if you've had a bit to drink. It may not be on par with some of the best burgers in Chicago, but it is still very yummy and filling. As for the side, I would order something other than the mediocre mac n' cheese...

Tips:

  1. There's paid street parking outside.
  2. Little Bad Wolf does not take reservations, and the wait may be a bit long (we waited an hour on a Friday night for a party of 4). As you wait, you can either grab some drinks at Little Bad Wolf or at a bar nearby. (Or you can go grocery shopping at the Jewel next door.)
  3. Little Bad Wolf is a great place to meet up with friends, but it's sort of a terrible place for dates due to how loud it is inside.
