Good Fella Korean Bistro
I've been to what are probably the two best places to dine out in Urbana-Champaign: Black Dog and Huaraches Moroleon. So it was time to discover something new. Thankfully, my friend suggested Good Fella Korean Bistro, which was certainly a step up from the Korean eateries right next to campus in terms of breadth of menu items and flavors.
We were so hungry we practically wolfed down the banchan, and then asked for more... Our favorites by far were definitely the tofu and potato ones. In my opinion, Good Fella serves up the best banchan selection out of any Korean restaurant in Urbana or Champaign.
I think the seafood pancake is my go-to dish at any Korean place, and it was no different here. This pancake could have been slightly crispier (I normally enjoy those topped with a thin crunch), but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
If you go with even just one other friend, you MUST order a hot pot. When this was placed in front of us, I didn't think there would be a ton of flavor since the broth was so clear. But one bite of the bulgogi and you will be able to taste the wow factor - it's all in the beef. We finished every last drop of soup in this large pot.
Japchae is a noodle dish made with sweet potato noodles. Here, they have perfected the seasoning, and I am very content with the addition of semi-sweet mushrooms. Japchae can be hot or cold, and since we had gone on a hot day, we were hoping for a platter of chilled noodles. But no such luck. We left a bit warm but with very full bellies.
- There is free parking outside.
- To get here, you'll probably want to drive... It's not close to campus.
- This place is awesome for sharing with a group of friends (especially the hot pots).
