As its name conveys, walking into Black Barn is like entering a modern, chic barn that was dressed by a fabulous interior designer. The venue itself seemed endless as we were led to our table towards the back of the cavernous dining room. As we sat to examine the farm to table, vegetarian friendly venue, we were served some freshly baked cornbread muffins.
We ordered the "champagne" brunch option, which was actually a bottle of what turned out to be French sparkling wine. It was a bit optimistic for them to call it champagne, but the bubbly certainly was the perfect start to the morning mixed with some passionfruit juice!
If you are looking for non-meat options, Black Barn is certainly the place to go! They have this curried cauliflower "steak" on the menu, which turned out to be an entire cauliflower head! It was packed with flavor and came with a very fresh side salad.
I had to go with the fried chicken and waffle option. The poultry was fried perfectly but the waffles could have been on the flufflier side. What I really loved about this rendition was the kale salad on the side, which made me feel like I didn't just eat one of the most unhealthy combinations you could for breakfast.
The pastrami sandwich might actually give Katz's a run for its money, and you'll probably be able to finish the whole thing yourself! I love how the bread is toasted and the I'm pretty sure Andrew could have eaten that pastrami all weekend.
Many reviews raved about the cornflake crusted French toast, and when my friend ordered it, I realized why. It's a GIGANTIC portion that will make your eyes oogle. What I really loved about this breakfast dessert were the caramelized apples, which added the perfect balance of sugar to this cinnamon delight! I would highly recommend if you are looking for something on the sweeter side to start your morning!
- Make a reservation for brunch. Although the space is huge, they are packed during brunch!
- Go hungry. The portions are huge.
